Wisdom Teeth

Most people have four wisdom teeth, two in the upper and two in the lower jaw. It is not uncommon for these teeth to become impacted. An impacted tooth is one which has not grown through the gum into the mouth or has grown only part way through, and is in an abnormal position. This is an unhealthy situation and the tooth should be removed to prevent problems with erosion, cysts, infection or crowding.

Teeth whitening

Our whitening system is a quick procedure that may whiten and brighten your teeth in less than one hour.

Root Canal Treatments

Inside a tooth is a fine channel called the root canal. This contains the dental pulp which consists of nerves and blood vessels. If the dental pulp becomes diseased or dies a toothache or an abscess may occur. In the past, these problem teeth were extracted, but now your dentist can offer you root canal treatment.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are used to cap a single tooth which may have been chipped or broken but which is otherwise healthy. Bridges replace one or more missing teeth and are anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap. You will need at least two appointments for the preparation and fitting of a crown or bridge.

Gum disease

The major cause of periodontal disease (also known as gum disease) is a plaque. This is an invisible sticky film of bacteria that covers the teeth and gums. If it collects on the teeth and builds upon the gum margins, it can harden and form a hard deposit called tartar or calculus. Plaque left on the teeth can make the gums swollen and red, and may make them bleed easily. Over time it can lead to the destruction of the fibers of the bone that holds the tooth in place.

Teeth extraction

We prefer to save your teeth, but sometimes you may need your tooth out. We are fast, efficient and pain-free. We specialize in dentures, removing all your teeth and replacing them with natural looking dentures if that is what you require.

Immediate denture

We specialise in providing immediate dentures - that is a denture inserted straight after the extraction of teeth to keep your smile always beautiful.

Veneers

Veneers can be compared with artificial fingernails. We can place white veneers on the surface of your teeth and create immediate makeover to keep your smile beautiful.

Filling

Composites or White Fillings

Composite resin filling material is tooth colored. A color is selected which matches the color of your teeth as closely as possible. These are by far the most popular fillings in New Zealand, because of their excellent appearance and strength. They are almost impossible to detect and are an excellent replacement for stained, chipped or leaking old front fillings.

ADVANTAGES

  • Cosmetic appearance.

  • May bond a weak tooth together, reducing the risk of fracture in an extensively filled tooth.

  • Can be fitted into very small holes, so less drilling is needed in preparation for filling.

DISADVANTAGES

  • Higher cost compared with amalgam fillings.

  • In larger fillings, poor wear resistance compared with other filling materials.

  • More frequent replacement required.

  • Increased sensitivity in some cases.

  • Composite fillings take longer to place than amalgam fillings.
